If there is any place in the house that has people gathering around it, it is a dining table. In this era of fast life and smartphones where we hardly have any time for each other, a dining table is a small island that unites the family after a long day’s hard work. Parents have a single complaint- their kids are never off of smartphones. And the kids hardly have any time to give outside their school, homework and social media. In corporate lives, the last thing you do before you go to bed is check your emails. And sadly, that is also the very first thing you do after you wake up. That’show life has started to function these days.
A small ray of hope here is our mealtimes when we are forced to interact with our family and/or housemates. We spend some time laughing, talking and having meaningful, quality conversations with the people who mean the most to us. Dining table certainly gives us our emotional place in the house.
For spaces that are moderate to huge, dining tables are not a problem. They fit right in and next to the kitchen, you can find it to be a sort of social area for the group. But what about small spaces?
Dining tables can definitely fit into small spaces too, if you show enough creativity. In this blog, we will discuss ways in which you can incorporate a small dining room into a limited kitchen area.
- As Wall Mount
A wall mount style of dining table utilizes the wall space and puts the dining space as an extension of it. It is specifically designed for small kitchens that can have only a few people’s seating capacity, at best. It can also double as a study table or a counter top otherwse.
- As Counter Top
A dining table and a countertop hybrid is popular in small cabins and generally exist in an open kitchen design. This unique style has grown out of a need to save space during times when the dining table is not required at all. During meal times, the counter-cum-dining space can be pulled out and used.
- Bar Style Table
A bar style table is a modern take on saving precious square footage in kitchen spaces that can otherwise be utilizes for purposes other than dining. A bar style table works well with a window looking out of the kitchen, but really, it is something that many people have begun to enjoy as a style.
- Breakfast Nook
A breakfast nook is a design you can find in most restaurants and cafes across the world. It is compact and seats four people at a time, but is retro and trendy as far as small dining tables go.
- Temporary Dining Space
Temporary dining spaces are a combination of different styles and designs, customized according to the space available. It can be a breakfast nook, coupled with a modern style furniture, or a counter top dining space, but bar style in nature.
Food is an integral part of our lives. It brings people together, both in celebration as well as in mourning. Dining space is a pleasant, happy area that is ideally a central zone of the house and accommodates the family and its needs- either big or small. Getting a small dining table can be a compromise on space, but it should never prove to be a compromise on smiles.
